Effective hand protection means striking the perfect balance between reliable protection and a comfortable fit – only safety gloves that are worn can fulfil their purpose. uvex is continuously developing innovative fibre and coating technologies such as the patented Bamboo TwinFlex® technology to deliver both wearer requirements.
For everyday use, the balance of cut and tear resistance properties is critical. The required level of cut protection is achieved through a high concentration of glass fibres, however, this could result in the tear resistance being compromised.
The techniques used by uvex to combine materials such as glass or steel fibres are key to achieving this balancing act and delivering wearer comfort and acceptance, as skin should only come into contact with fibres that are non-irritating. Features such as fit and dexterity change when coatings are applied, which are equally important and needed to obtain high levels of durability and ensure cost effectiveness.
uvex Bamboo TwinFlex® technology
Cut-resistant glass fibres and abrasion-resistant polyamide guarantee optimum mechanical protection. The use of steel fibres in combination with polyamide increases the cut protection to as high as level D. Soft, comfortable bamboo yarn for a soft feel and perfect climate control combined with resistant HPPE fibres for high tear resistance. The combination of bamboo yarn with innovative HPPE fibres provides a further significant boost to tear and cut resistance.

Modification to the EN 388 standard for cut protection gloves
Protection classes for cut protection gloves were previously assigned in Europe in accordance with standard EN 388:2003. Due to the continuous development of technical materials – so-called ‘high-performance fibres’ – it has become necessary to adjust the methods used to test and classify cut protective gloves. These changes have been implemented in standard EN 388:2016. In addition to the coup-test in accordance with EN 388:2003 the new test method in accordance to ISO 13997 has been introduced.

The European standard EN 388 describes the requirements, test methods and labelling of safety gloves against mechanical risks when carrying out work. Safety gloves are classified with a performance level in relation to each of the individual mechanical hazards.
