Why do we use bamboo in PPE products?

Bamboo fibre is becoming increasingly well-known for its use in clothing due to its soft, luxurious feel attributed to the smooth, round structure of its fibres. Its breathability, high capacity and quick moisture absorption properties help keep skin cool, dry and comfortable when compared to synthetic or even cotton equivalents.

But bamboo offers more than just comfort. If you tried to break bamboo with your bare hands you wouldn’t be able to. That’s because it’s an exceptionally strong fibre. Bamboo is mostly known as a sustainable, multi-use, eco-crop with a huge environmental impact.

In our mission to become the industry’s leading sustainable PPE manufacturer, we started exploring what could happen if we took those strong, sustainable bamboo fibres and used it to create PPE products.

Excellent wicking properties and pulls moisture away from the skin so that it can evaporate

Does not cause skin reactions like wool and hemp can cause

Can absorb 50% more moisture than cotton

Can absorb up to 50% more moisture than cotton

Able to take three times its weight in water

Cool in summer and warm in winter

Bamboo is also naturally hypoallergenic making it ideal for those with sensitive skin.

Bamboo also has many antibacterial qualities, which bamboo fabric is able to retain, even through multiple washings. This helps to reduce bacteria that thrive on clothing and cause unpleasant odours - making it ideal for gloves and physically demanding tasks.

Bamboo fabric is a natural textile made from the pulp of the bamboo grass. Bamboo fabric has been growing in popularity due to its many unique properties and is more sustainable than most textile fibres.

Bamboo, a renewable resource, is grown efficiently with no pesticides or harsh chemicals

The bamboo is cultivated and processed in our CO2-neutral facility, using only 100% green energy

The bamboo fibres are then spun into an extremely durable and silky-soft yarn

The yarn is manufactured into a tightly-bound knit alongside protective fibres to produce uvex Bamboo TwinFlex®

From bamboo to safety shoe

The breathable distance mesh lining of the uvex 1 G2 planet is made of 18% bamboo fibres and 52% recycled polyester.
